Where we work across the Valley

We are based in Glendale and cover the Valley from there — the West Valley most days, and out to Phoenix, Scottsdale and the East Valley for scheduled work.

Pools in Sun City, Sun City West and Sun City Grand are among the oldest in the Valley and have their own rules before work can start — we cover those separately.

  • West Valley: Glendale, Peoria, Sun City, Sun City West, Surprise, El Mirage, Youngtown, Litchfield Park, Avondale, Goodyear, Tolleson, Buckeye
  • Phoenix & north: Phoenix, Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, Anthem
  • East Valley: Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert

Hard water is the common thread across all of them. Valley tap water carries a heavy mineral load, and with the evaporation rates we get through an Arizona summer, those minerals concentrate fast and bond to tile at the waterline. That is why scale removal is the service we are asked for most, and why a pool here needs it far sooner than the same pool would somewhere with softer water.

Pool restoration questions we get asked

What causes the white crust on my pool tile?

It is calcium carbonate scale. Phoenix-area tap water is very hard, and in our climate a pool loses a lot of water to evaporation. The minerals left behind concentrate at the waterline and bond to the tile, leaving the familiar white or grey band.

Do you have to drain the pool to clean the tile?

No. Waterline tile and scale cleaning is done with the pool full, working along the water's edge. Draining is only needed for work on the interior surface itself, such as an acid wash, where the plaster has to be exposed.

How often do Phoenix pools need tile cleaning?

There is no standard interval, despite how confidently it gets quoted. It depends on your fill water, your water balance and how much you evaporate — and an Arizona pool loses four to six feet a year to evaporation, which is what concentrates the minerals in the first place. The honest trigger is visible scale at the waterline, not a date on the calendar.

Can hard-water scale be removed without replacing the tile?

In most cases, yes. Scale sits on top of the tile rather than in it, so it can usually be taken off and the original surface restored. Replacement is normally only considered when the tile itself is cracked, missing, or already etched underneath.

Will an acid wash damage my plaster?

An acid wash works by dissolving some of the cement paste holding the surface together, taking the staining with it. The National Plasterers Council notes this leaves the surface more porous, which makes future staining easier. Plaster is only a few eighths of an inch thick to begin with, so it is a periodic restoration step, not routine maintenance. Anyone quoting an exact number of washes a pool can take is guessing — no standards body publishes one.

How quickly can a green pool be cleared up?

Often within a couple of days, and sometimes overnight, depending on how far the algae has gone, the pool's filtration, and the water balance. The cause has to be identified first, otherwise the algae simply returns after the water clears.
